Repairs continue today on a water main break behind the Valemount Health Clinic on 6th ave.

Village of Valemount CAO Wayne Robinson said approximately 17 properties were affected by the water line break, including the health centre and the RCMP detachment.

He said two properties remain without water today, including a residential lot and the health centre.

The Valemount Health Clinic confirmed they are open today, but their washrooms are not operational.

“The Public Works crew was required to isolate this section of the water main on 6th Ave to determine where the leak was coming from,” Robinson said.

Crews learned the water leak was coming from the medical clinic’s line, close to the connection.

He said the crew excavated the area but were hampered by the frozen ground, and as a result the crew worked until 11:30 pm yesterday evening.  Water service was restored around 8:30 pm last night.

The crew is back to the site today to complete the repairs hopefully by the end of today, he said, and there should be no need to turn off the water again.

Robinson said 6th Ave will be an active work site today, and asks the public to avoid travelling between Karas Drive and Dogwood unless it’s to access their residential properties.
