McBride community surprises boy with T-Rex Pinata

Young McBride resident Bowdrie returned home from yet another trip to the hospital in Prince George for seizure related complications Saturday evening, May 24th. On Sunday morning, he found a T-Rex pinata on the doorstep of their home.

On Saturday morning, after hearing the news that Bow was in the hospital again, their neighbour and local business owner Gina Gallacher had the idea to welcome him back home with the present.

“The first thing that popped into my head was that I was going to do a pinata for Bow for when he comes home, just for some joy,” she said.

The idea expanded to include hand written notes from friends and family in the dinosaur. She put the word out and estimated approximately 50 notes of well-wishers and support joined the candy and small toys waiting to be smashed to their freedom.

After a few strong swings with both a bat and a hockey stick, Bow broke through the shell and cards scattered around the room.

“We are very grateful for our community that rallies around us,” said his mom, Meagan Ryan. “Because you just don’t see that anywhere. And a big shout out to Gina’s generosity.”

Once the T-Rex was empty, Ryan recorded a short message from Bow.

“Thank you, everyone, for sending this to me,” he said.
