Conservative Bob Zimmer has been re-elected as MP of the Prince George—Peace River—Northern Rockies riding. This will be Zimmer’s fifth term as MP, having first been elected in 2011.

In a recent interview with The Goat, Zimmer said he will prioritize bolstering the country’s natural resource sector and securing Arctic sovereignty during this term.

“In these areas like Fort Nelson, Valemount and McBride, we used to have vibrant resource economies,” Zimmer said at the time. “Now those same [people] – whether they’re a mill worker, an oil and gas worker, a miner – they struggle to put food on the table because they sometimes lack a job.”

Zimmer won the election with a 71.3 per cent share of the votes, comfortably beating Liberal  runner-up Peter Njenga’s 19.3 per cent. NDP candidate Cory Grizz Longley won 6 per cent of the vote, while Greens candidate Mary Forbes won 2.1 per cent and People’s Party of Canada candidate David Watson took 1.3 per cent of the vote. Zimmer had a nearly 27,000 vote lead over Njenga, according to CBC’s vote tracker.
