Valemount woman dies in crash

By Andru McCracken

A 21-year-old Valemount woman, Dakota Shaw, was killed in a single vehicle crash on Highway 16 near Penny Access Road east of Purden Lake on September 11th.

RCMP say the woman was ejected from the vehicle. She was airlifted to hospital where she died from her injuries.

The driver, a 41-year-old man also from Valemount, sustained minor injuries.

RCMP say they believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors. RCMP communications officer Madonna Saunderson says the investigation is ongoing.

There is a fundraiser for the family of Dakota Shaw’s family to help with the costs of her funeral.
