New Interim CAO

Council adopted minutes of the special meeting on June 28 in which they agreed to offer previous administrator Mr. Doug Fleming a six-month Interim CAO Position with the Village.

UBCM Convention Meetings

Staff had to send Valemount’s list for meeting with Ministers by Friday and tentatively decided on ministers of Transportation & Infrastructure, Energy and Mines and possibly Solicitor General.

Councillor Blanchette gave a thanks to the business for serving the community for 20 years.

Transmountain Update

Transmountain filed a six-month construction schedule with the National Energy Board on July 3. The work in this area will be carried out by Ledcor Sicim and begin in September 2018. It includes surveying, staking and flagging the right-of-way, installing signage; taking environmental measures such as weed control and relocation of any rare plants; wildlife surveys; as well as clearing trees and vegetation.

Valemount Sports Day Committee

Council approved staff to advertise a Request for Quotes for upgrades on the Beer Gardens and Concession at the Sports Plex;

Council also approved staff to secure funding from the Valemount Sports Day Committee with a suggestion that they apply to the CBT Community Initiatives grant next year for the upgrades;

Council approved the recommendation that if funding was secured by the Committee, then staff could complete the upgrades.

Council Reports

Mayor and councillors Reimer, Salt and Torgerson attended the special council meeting on June 28, July 5 BBQ with local MP and MLA and the July 5 unveiling of signage on the Canoe River Train Wreck at Camp Creek.

Canada Day celebrations was attended by the Mayor, councillor Reimer and Torgerson.

Councillors Reimer and Torgerson attended a community forest meeting on July 9.

Councillor Salt attended the June 30 Walk for Scleroderma.

Councillor Blanchette attended the grand re-opening of the V-Crew Youth Centre in the basement of the Curling Rink on July 10.

The Mayor attended the Veterans dinner at the Legion on June 29.
