Valemount RCMP had to respond to a second accidental death in five days on Tuesday morning.

RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 5 between Valemount and Tete Jaune on Jul. 4 shortly after 6:30 AM.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers found two vehicles — a pick-up truck and a sedan — in the southbound ditch.

Initial RCMP investigation shows the driver of the pickup truck, who was travelling northbound, was attempting to pass a semi-truck when the vehicle collided head on with the southbound sedan, forcing both vehicles into the southbound ditch.

The driver of the sedan did not survive, while the driver and passenger in the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The highway remained closed as of Tuesday morning; with RCMP saying the road would remain closed for several more hours.

A diversion in place on Blackman Road was allowing through traffic.
