It’s a gutsy thing even for a bear to do: waltz through the RCMP parking lot at high noon. The RCMP had gotten a call a few days earlier about a bear near the junction of Main St. and 5th Ave. This time the bear had found its way down 5th Ave. Police say the bear seemed attracted to garbage easily accessible in residents’ yards. Officers managed to scare the bear out of the area and alerted the BC Conservation Office. Black bears usually enter hibernation in September or October and remain dormant until April or May. A mama bear and cub wandered into the Village several years ago around the same time of year. Police remind residents to be cautious around this wild animal and are also encouraged to remove any items that could be attracting bears into the village.
