Young people with energy and fun ideas always inspire me. They brings me back to my teen years when I was so excited about life, when opportunity was everywhere for me. No dream too impossible, time was endless and I would always have my friends with me.

As I’m getting to know more and more youth in Valemount, I’m still excited, but in a different way. I’m seeing the youth of our community as our voice for the future. I’m hearing them as they share their ideas about life. Some are hopeful, full of life and hope, others are telling me that they are bored and life is a drag. And for some it’s a bit of both, depending on what day you talk to them. These feelings are common at their age, with their newfound independence and the expanded world opening up for them. They are learning that there is a big wonderful world out there for them to yet to explore.

I’m excited to share that we have been given the opportunity with Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) to meet face to face with our local youth, to hear from them what their wants and desires are for youth of youth of Valemount and surrounding area. This is our opportunity to have a dialogue, an information sharing and to come up with a vision for the future.

You are invited to join us for the Columbia Basin Trust Priority Setting Workshop being held on Feb. 13, 2013 at the Visitor’s Centre in Valemount starting at 4:30 pm. The workshop is facilitated by CBT to assist youth and residents of Valemount and area to discuss funding opportunities to enhance youth services and opportunities based on local priorities.

To youth: it is very important that we hear from you if you are between the age 12-19 years of age as this is an excellent opportunity to have YOUR ideas shared and discussed. What are your dreams for your community? What would you like to see for happen for youth in the village? Are there some special projects or activities that are important to you?
