In a heartwarming ceremony held at the Valemount Lions Club, members of the community, as well as First Vice District Governor, Steve Sweeney, and Zone 9 Chair, Shelley Sweeney, came together last month to honor the club’s longest-serving member, Barb Shephard. With 47 years of service, Barb Shephard has been a cornerstone of the Valemount Lions Club. A true embodiment of dedication, Barb has spearheaded countless initiatives, from organizing community events to mentoring younger members.

“Your unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have left a mark on our community… Your dedication has not only strengthened our club, but has also inspired a new generation of Lions to follow in your footsteps,” said Valemount Lions Club President Jamie Mintz.

This special event highlighted the enduring legacy of service and the exciting promise of the new generation stepping forward to continue the club’s mission. Natalie Pardo, a vibrant new addition to the club, was also honoured through an enrollment ceremony by First Vice District Governor Steve Sweeney.

A symbolic passing of the torch—an honorary pin exchange—underscored the unity between past, present, and future generations of the club.

As the celebration drew to a close, Mintz aptly summarized the event, saying,

“We all bring something unique to the table and that is what opens doors and builds opportunities for our little community”.

The evening left attendees inspired, a testament to the enduring spirit of the Lions Club. Here’s to the continued tradition of service, guided by the wisdom of experience and fueled by the energy of new beginnings.
