BC Housing says work on the Valemount Senior Citizen’s Housing project is nearly 60 per cent complete.

Construction on the project, located on 1101 Ash Street began in May 2023.

In an emailed statement to The Goat, BC Housing said work completed thus far includes the building’s foundation, structure, and roof. Remaining work includes finishing the interior and exterior of the building and landscaping.

It said once construction is complete, the facility will provide 18 rental homes to local seniors, including 16 one-bedroom units and two two-bedroom homes. Each unit will have direct access to a private outdoor garden patio space. Rental supports will include subsidies, rents geared to income, and affordable market rentals.

“All of the homes will be accessible for people with increased mobility requirements,” BC Housing said, adding that it anticipates the building will open to the public this fall.

“We understand the urgent need for more housing in Valemount. This is why since 2017, the Province has more than 77,000 homes delivered or underway across British Columbia, including 53 homes in Valemount,” BC Housing said.
