Deputy Mayor Diane Smith called the Oct 12 McBride Council meeting to order at 7:00pm. 

Men’s Shed support

Council directed staff to provide a letter of support to Robson Valley Community Services for their grant submission to the New Horizons for Seniors Program for the implementation of the Men’s Shed in Valemount and McBride.

Rainbow Falls property 

Council directed staff to reply to Nancy and Fred Leake, Leafar Lands Ltd’s letter regarding the Rainbow Falls property. Council requested that the response explain that the Village is unable to purchase the land as it is out of their jurisdiction, but that they would be happy to see the property open to public use through the Regional District.

Development Variance Permit

Council approved Development Variance Permit #2022-04. The permit requested was presented to council at the meeting on Sept 27 by Rico and Connie Vizza for an additional accessory building at 510 Dominion Street.

Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw report to Council

Council gave the Permissive Tax Exemption Bylaw No. 812, 2022 first, second and third readings. The bylaw covers all portions of church properties that contain a church hall; St. Paul’s United Church, The Catholic Church, The Pentecostal Church and Evangelical Free Church.

In camera

Council moved to in-camera for consideration of matters of the Community Charter related to: Section 90 (1): (c) labour relations or other employee relations; (e) the acquisition, disposition or expropriation of land or improvements, if the council considers that disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm the interests of the municipality; (g) litigation or potential litigation affecting the municipality; (i) the receipt of advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege, including communications necessary for that purpose; and (k) negotiations and related discussions respecting the proposed provision of a municipal service that area the their preliminary stage and that, in the view of the council, could reasonably be expected to harm the interest of the municipality if they were held in public.

Council adjourned the public portion of the meeting at 7:16pm to proceed to an in camera meeting.
