Dear editor,

Our class went to the marsh and saw the snakes mating. Garter snakes are awesome! Garter snakes have 10-40 babies, but after they’re born, their mom leaves them. They eat insects and frogs. There are lots of predators so we have to help them by not touching them.

Citizens shouldn’t harass the garter snakes. If you harass them, they may not come back next year. Also, if you harass the garter snakes while they are mating and they die, there will not be as many next year to see. Garter snakes are interesting creatures and if they die it would be sad.

Next time you think about touching them, think twice. I know I will.

Sincerely,

Carter Rose
