Trans Mountain set up a ‘full-scale’ emergency response exercise in Valemount September 19. The company set up an Incident Command Post while running a field exercise on Kinbasket Lake.

“The purpose of the exercises is to practice our Emergency Response Plan, confirm viable spill control points and refresh personnel on the water-based spill response tactics,” wrote a spokesperson for the company on September 18.

“In-the-field training helps to ensure an efficient response in the unlikely event of an incident, and allows us to train together with agencies, first responders and Indigenous communities to ensure that we are fully prepared to respond in a timely and effective manner,” said Kelly Malinoski, Trans Mountain’s Director of Emergency Management.

The company said that no oil or simulated product would be released during the exercise.
