The McBride and District Public Library has decided to extend February. Not the number of days or the weather thank goodness, but the Food for Fee Forgiveness program they have been honouring this month. The library has been accepting food bank donations in the place of overdue fees in February and will continue the program into March. Library Director Naomi Balla-Boudreau says the new deadline is Friday March 15, 2019. Patrons returning overdue books accompanied by non-perishable food items will have the associated amount owing, erased from their account. The library has done a fee forgiveness February for many years. More recently they added the food bank donation element. It gives them an opportunity to help the community in a way different from their regular methods, and helps the food bank at a time in the year when donations seem to dwindle. / ANDREA ARNOLDRelated Posts:New Picnic Spot in ValemountSilent auction for library's outdoor garden spaceCollaboration key to librarian's successLibrary offers playschool to help with preschool gapLetters/Op-Ed: Kamloops Residential School memorial eventPost navigationLetter: Thank you IDAEditorial: Outside the box
