Two properties in Valemount now have temporary use permits to be used as short term vacation rentals, and one more will be considered in January.

Temporary vacation rentals are not currently addressed in Valemount’s zoning bylaw or community plan. In order to apply for a business license for 2014, anyone running a temporary vacation rental property will be required to apply for a temporary use permit.

A public hearing was held before the Council meeting on Dec. 10 for the first two properties, both on Cranberry Place and managed by Diane and Shawn Fowler of Whisper Creek Cabin Rentals. With no comments from the public, Council approved the permits for both properties, which will be valid until Dec. 31, 2016.

A public hearing will be held before Council meeting on Jan. 14 to consider the third application for use as a temporary vacation rental, for a property on Canoe View Place.
