The Valemount Visitor Centre is partnering with the Valemount Area Recreation Development Association (VARDA) this winter season to offer improved service to winter tourists, especially snowmobilers.

This winter is the first the Visitor Information Centre has been open. In previous years it closed in the fall and re-opened in spring. Depending on the success of this winter, it may continue to be open year-round.

The Visitor Centre is open seven days a week and provides recent grooming reports, trail conditions, avalanche reports, weather updates and local knowledge. The Visitor Centre sells VARDA Memberships and Season Passes.

“We are extremely excited to have the Visitor Centre open during the winter,” says Curtis Pawliuk, VARDA general manager.

He says it can be difficult for visiting sledders to reach VARDA staff at their office.

“The Visitor Centre will guarantee that our visitors can get the service and information they need in a convenient manner.”

Included in the $30 VARDA membership is a membership to the Association of British Columbia Snowmobile Clubs, which supports many clubs in BC and offers benefits on insurance. Local businesses and certain sponsor businesses in Alberta also offer perks.

The Visitor Centre is open this winter Sunday – Thursday 10 am – 4 pm, Fridays 10 am – 9 pm, and Saturdays 8 am – 5 pm.

The Visitor Centre is managed by Wendy Dyson and Bruce Wilkinson of Adventure Management and receives funding from the Village of Valemount and the Province of BC.
