Mount Robson Marathon celebrates 10 years

On September 6th the Mount Robson Marathon celebrated ten years of racing to Berg Lake and Robson Pass. The 500 participant race sold out early in June. Runners were eager to test their legs and experience the stunning scenery of Mount Robson Provincial Park.
The race took place on the newly revitalized Berg Lake Trail. It offers four distances, including a 5km, 12km, half marathon and 50km ultra marathon. There is also a free kid’s fun run. The ultra marathon takes runners from the Welcome Centre at Highway 16 to Robson Pass and back, while the shorter distances have turnaround points earlier along the trail.
The fastest finisher in the 50km Ultra Marathon was Braeden Cober, who won with a time of 4:18:53. The winner of the women’s 50km Ultra was Breanne Austin with a time of 4:59:49. Over 60 locals from the surrounding communities of Valemount, Dunster, McBride, Dome Creek and Jasper also took part in the race.
The Mount Robson Marathon is a running event hosted annually by the Yellowhead Outdoor Recreation Association. It is strongly supported by volunteers in the community, with close to 50 volunteers, plus the many incredible community sponsors. Funds raised from the race go towards enhancing and maintaining hiking trails, backcountry access, ski trails, and recreation cabins in the Valemount area.
