The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) discovered five new fires in the Robson Valley Wednesday evening, July 31st. One fire, listed as G31212 on the BCWS dashboard, is on Lucille Mountain, about 15 kilometres southeast of McBride. Additionally, four fires were discovered between Loos and Dome Creek.

Each of the fires was caused by lightning, according to the dashboard. While they are listed as out of control – meaning they are anticipated to spread beyond their current perimeter – the fires in the Dome Creek area are all under one hectare, with the largest recorded at 0.2 hectares and the other three recorded as 0.009 hectares.

The fire on Lucille Mountain was discovered at 7:30 p.m. and is 2 hectares large as of writing the morning of August 1st. In an email to The Goat, BCWS information officer Jeromy Corrigan said an initial attack crew is working on the fire. He added that winds in the Prince George Fire Centre have been relatively calm over the last few days, which has helped the Service fight fires in the area.

The fires near Dome Creek are currently being assessed, according to Corrigan. Updates will be posted on the BCWS dashboard when they are available, he said.

Corrigan said the Service is anticipating more thunderstorms in the area over the next 24 to 48 hours. The Goat will continue to monitor fires in the Robson Valley.
