The Ash Street seniors’ housing project welcomed residents in mid-July after multiple delays, according to BC Housing.

The project, administered by the Valemount Senior Citizens’ Housing Society and funded in part by BC Housing, was initially scheduled to open by summer 2024 but was rescheduled due to supply chain issues and a need to secure funding for furniture and landscaping equipment, the Society previously told The Goat.

In an email statement to The Goat, BC Housing said a grand opening celebration is planned for this fall. In the meantime, the Society is waiting on approval from BC Hydro to install solar panels, the email added. According to the email, contractors mistakenly installed a valve for non-potable water and had to replace it with the correct valve at their own expense, contributing to delays.

A grand opening event will be held on September 11th.

The Society was unable to respond to a request for comment by press time.
