Molendyk’s Tigers clinch WHL victory

McBride-raised defenseman for the Medicine Hat Tigers Tanner Molendyk (right) helped the Medicine Hat Tigers clinch its first Western Hockey League Championship since 2007, marking the sixth time the team has won the championship in WHL franchise history. According to the CHL, Molendyk, along with his fellow defenseman Bryce Pickford, were a crucial part of the backend of the Tigers, which helped the team secure a 4-2 win against the Spokane Chiefs in Game 5 of the WHL Championship Series. The championship trophy, named in honor of Ed Chynoweth, is considered one of the hardest trophies to win in hockey. /COURTESY JEN SMALL PHOTOGRAPHY
