Long-awaited seniors housing aims for June opening

The Valemount Seniors Citizens’ Housing Society has delayed the opening of its Ash Street housing project until at least June. No specific opening date has been set, according to administrator Claudia Frost.

Initially scheduled to open by summer 2024, the project has faced repeated delays. In October, Society Chair Donnie MacLean told The Goat that supply chain issues had prevented the project from being completed. At the time, MacLean said the building would not open before December 2024 or January 2025, but did not provide a specific opening date.

In March, Society Administrator Rob Hennigar presented the Society’s grant application for Resident-Directed grant funding from Columbia Basin Trust. Hennigar said the grant would be used for “finishing touches” on the project, including furniture for guest rooms and miscellaneous landscaping equipment.

In a recent email to The Goat, Frost said the Society looks forward to opening the project, though an opening date has not been set.

“I cannot give you a definitive date for the opening of the Ash Street Housing project,” Frost wrote. “We are anticipating and hoping for some time in June.”

Frost did not comment on the reason for the delay. The Goat will continue to follow this story.
