RCMP arrested a 58-year-old man who was wanted on multiple warrants for assault in Barriere last week after he barricaded himself in his home on Creekside Road.

Barriere RCMP and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT) made the arrest on January 24th.

Police say the man was considered a high-risk offender so the SED ERT was called in to assist officers with the arrest.

“After attempts were made to have the suspect exit his home on his own were unsuccessful, SED ERT utilized various tactics to safely arrest him,” said Cpl. James Grandy with BC RCMP Communication Services.

According to the RCMP, the man was arrested without incident with no risk posed to the public. He was then taken into custody to await a court appearance.

Grandy said because the file is still under active investigation, no further details will be released.
