A pilot project that saw extended hours for three area transfer stations is concluding on September 1st.

“As a result of challenges with staffing, the Mackenzie and Valemount Regional Transfer Stations will revert back to pre-pilot project hours,” a release says.

The Valemount Regional Transfer Station will be open from 10-4pm on weekends, and from 9-4pm Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays effective September 1st.

Dump hours have varied over the summer, with some days closed due to staff shortages.

Communications Manager Renee McCloskey says they have not tried recruiting more people for the position.

“The extended hours in the pilot project definitely put a strain on the staffing resources we have,” she told the Goat. “Reverting to regular winter hours will help reduce that pressure.  We are not recruiting at the moment. However, we are continually assessing the staffing resources available and should we determine we are in a position to add staff, we will post something.”

The Transfer Station is the only place residents can dispose of garbage and many types of recycling, outside of municipal garbage pick-up for those living in village limits.
