The Figure Skating Jamboree, a fun annual competition between Valemount and McBride clubs, took place on Sun. Jan 15th in McBride. This one day event gave the skaters a chance to practice performing and give competition a try. It was open to all ages and the coaches encouraged all of their skaters to give it a try.

Some 49 skaters took to the ice, 25 from the Canoe Valley Skating Club and 24 from the McBride Figure Skating Club.

Elizabeth Trask, head coach for the McBride club, was thrilled with how the day went.

“All the skaters did amazing,” she said. “There were some personal bests and everyone had fun and tried hard. It is great to see so many young athletes doing what they love and performing for an audience who loved watching them.”

“I’m so proud of everyone,” said Valemount coach Sharonrose Shalla. “They skated their hearts out. I feel like they all deserve gold.”

Shalla also mentioned that seven of the Valemount skaters are headed to the Okanagan Region Championships at the end of the month.
