Two dead in Hwy 16 rollover

Two people were pronounced deceased after a vehicle incident near the Tete Jaune junction Friday evening.
Valemount RCMP responded to reports of a collision at about 6:40 p.m. on Friday. Upon arriving at the scene, officers determined the incident involved a single vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, travelling eastbound that had flipped into the ditch.
Police say four people were in the vehicle at the time of the incident. Two were pronounced deceased, while the other two were taken to receive medical treatment for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
“The investigation is in its early stages and investigators are working to identify factors that may have contributed to this collision,” a spokesperson for the BC RCMP told The Goat.
The highway was closed in both directions between the junction and the Tête Jaune Cache rest area overnight, but re-opened to traffic Saturday morning at about 3:15 a.m.
