Members of the public were invited to a 3rd annual celebration at the Kiyooka Land Trust Foundation in Tete Jaune Sunday May 25th. The celebration included an optional raft float with Stellar Descents arriving at the sandbar at the foot of the property, a bird watching tour with Elsie Stanley, riparian talk with Jeff Werner, plant identification walk with Barb Zimmer and pine needle basket weaving with Metis educator Toni Appleby.

The land once belonged to Frank and Ann Kiyooka which is where they raised their family. The Trust’s mandate is “to protect the ecological integrity of the lands we hold in trust for future generations of all life.”

The website says the Foundation recognized the absence of a local land trust organization in the Robson Valley region and wanted to allow property owners the possibility of gifting their land to an organization that understood the needs of the local community. Trust is governed by a board of directors that includes locals.
