On Sunday April 4th the McBride RCMP were notified of a vehicle theft which had just taken place on Main Street. The owner of the vehicle went to use a local ATM and when she returned, she found the suspect attempting to steal her car.

The owner attempted to stop the thief, but was injured in the process. She was transported to McBride Hospital by BC Ambulance Service where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

McBride and Valemount RCMP, with the assistance of the North District Traffic Services members converged on Highway 16 and quickly located the stolen vehicle travelling westbound towards Prince George. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was quickly taken into custody without incident.

Investigation into the matter revealed that the man had stolen a vehicle out of Edmonton and committed numerous criminal acts along his way to McBride. Once in McBride, the male committed a dine and dash at a local restaurant and waited for his opportunity to steal another vehicle.

This individual is known to police in Alberta as he was recently placed on a recognizance by the courts on Friday and is currently awaiting trial on a number of unrelated charges out of Alberta.

The Robson Valley Regional RCMP would like to remind the public that your safety is our utmost concern. Property items can be replaced; we cannot place a monetary value on lives.

The suspect appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was held for a court appearance in Prince George.
