German explorer Florian Pieritz has been bike packing through Canada and arrived at his ultimate destination of Great Slave Lake in the North West Territories last week. He left the city half a day before a massive wildfire led to the evacuation of the community. As of presstime, nearly 70 per ent of the Territory was under evacuation order. Pieritz stayed in Valemount for several days on his journey north. It took him 2.5 days to hitchhike and bike the 1600kms back to Prince George. He is now headed towards Prince Rupert to take a ferry to Vancouver Island. You can follow his journey at tinyurl.com/florian-bikes. /SUBMITTED
