Shalia Keith, a trained farrier from Montana State University’s College of Agriculture, recently trimmed the hooves of Dawna Hickerty’s horses. Chester is a 15-year-old Quarter Horse, a Russian Arab Cross. Keith says hooves need to be trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Keith says problems with the horse’s feet can lead to problems with its back. “If you ever buy a horse, be sure to check their feet,” Keith says.
