With recent heavy snowfall in Prince George and other regions, School District 57’s parent advisory committee is reminding residents of the district’s Winter Weather Policy.

The policy says that schools will always be open for students, no matter what the weather or temperature. Any decision to keep a child at home because of winter weather should be made by a parent.

The policy also says school bus service will not be canceled because of cold weather, but individual bus runs may be canceled because of dangerous road conditions. The decision to cancel the run will be announced on local radio as soon as possible. Students are not expected to wait more than 15 minutes past the scheduled pick up time. If a bus is late, students should return to their homes or another prearranged safe place.

Sarah Holland, chair of the District Parent Advisory Council reminds parents that although schools won’t be closed, regular instruction may be modified if student attendance is reduced substantially. She says don’t expect your kids to be doing anything too academic on a “snow day.”

The full policy is available on School District 57’s website.
