In an effort to better keep the community informed the Robson Valley Regional RCMP will be providing weekly press releases to the local papers. The list is not inclusive of all calls of service the local RCMP detachments receive, but provides a cross section of what is happening in the Robson Valley.

On December 16, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of theft. The investigation revealed that the items in question were property that had been shared between roommates. The parties were brought together and the property was sorted out. No charges are being contemplated at this time.

On December 16, 2013 Valemount RCMP were notified of an abandoned car on Hwy 16 near Mount Robson partially in the travel portion of the highway. Police attended and the vehicle had broken down and had it’s 4 way flashers on. Despite the hazard lights the vehicle was towed as a traffic hazard.

On December 16, 2013 McBride RCMP was on patrol when a tractor trailer unit crossed the center line causing the police vehicle to pull over to the shoulder. The truck was subsequently stopped and the driver, a 63 year old Quebec resident, was suspected of texting and driving. Violation tickets were issued for failing to maintain log books and cross double solid line and the driver was taken out of service.

On December 16, 2013 McBride RCMP attended a single vehicle collision with a moose. The driver was not injured in the collision despite the vehicle being totalled.

On December 17, 2013 McBride RCMP conducted several Counter Attack Road Checks in the area for impaired drivers. All drivers checked were found to be sober.

On December 17, 2013 McBride RCMP attended a single vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near Walker Creek. Weather conditions were very bad and after losing sight of the road the driver slid off the highway and down the embankment. No one was injured in the crash.

On December 17, 2013 McBride RCMP were called to domestic dispute. It was determined that a 54 year old female was the aggressor and she was arrested for assault and taken into custody. She was released the next morning once sober on no contact conditions and is scheduled to appear in Court in January.

On December 18, 2013 Valemount RCMP was on patrol when a vehicle was observed spinning out on 5th St. the vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 28 year old Vancouver male, displayed signs of impairment and was read a breath demand. The driver provided a sample of breath in to an approved screening device resulting in a fail reading. The driver was issued an immediate road side prohibition for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The driver will also face several fines.

On December 18, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision with a deer near the Valemount golf course. The driver was uninjured in the crash, but the vehicle received significant damage and was not drivable.

On December 18, 2013 McBride RCMP attended a collision involving a tractor trailer unit and 2 moose. The driver was uninjured in the crash. Both of the injured moose were dispatched by RCMP.

On December 21, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of tractor trailer unit down a 50 foot embankment near Moose Lake on Hwy 16. Police attended and the driver was uninjured. The truck lost control on icy roads and jack knifed before exiting the highway left.

On December 21, 2013 McBride RCMP responded to a single vehicle roll over on Hwy 16 near the Baker Creek rest area. A vehicle had braked for a vehicle in front and lost control on icy roads prior to spinning out and rolling. None of the occupants were injured in the collision.

On December 22, 2013 Valemount RCMP were notified of an overdue traveller. Members made enquiries at local hotels and by leaving messages on his cell phone. The driver was eventually located near Tete Jaune where he had stopped to rest without telling anyone of his plans causing them to fear for his safety. Police remind all travellers to ensure they keep friends and family advised of their travel plans, when to expect them, and when they make unplanned stops.

On December 22, 2013 Valemount RCMP were made aware of a single vehicle collision near Mount Robson. A pick-up truck had spun out on the icy highway and rolled once. The driver was uninjured, but his wife had whiplash. Both were transported to the Valemount Medical Clinic.

On December 22, 2013 Valemount RCMP attended a single vehicle rollover on Hwy 5 near Jackman Flats. BC Ambulance and Fire Rescue were also on scene and the occupants were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

On December 22, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 16 near Shale Hill. The vehicle lost control on icy roads and struck a no post concrete barrier. Neither of the occupants were injured in the crash.

On December 22, 2013 McBride RCMP received a report of a found purse at the Slim Creek rest area. The purse was turned over to police before being returned to its rightful owner.

On December 22, 2013 McBride RCMP received a 911 call for an injured snowmobiler who had possibly broken his leg. BC Ambulance and Search and Rescue responded and the injured party was airlifted to safety.
