In an effort to better keep the community informed the Robson Valley Regional RCMP will be providing weekly press releases to the local papers. The list is not inclusive of all calls of service the local RCMP detachments receive, but provides a cross section of what is happening in the Robson Valley.

On November 25, 2013 Valemount received a report of a theft that occurred on Cedarside Rd. Thieves entered an unlocked shop and took several tools. Anyone with information is asked to call Valemount RCMP at 250-566-4466 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). Police would like to remind everyone to keep their houses and out buildings locked at all times and, if you are going to be away, ensure you have someone checking your property on a regular basis, or even better, have a house sitter.

On November 24, 2013 Valemount RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 5 near Bone Creek. The driver of the vehicle had already left the scene and failed to advise police of the collision. No injuries were reported and charges are pending against the driver.

On November 25, 2013 Valemount RCMP stopped a vehicle for travelling 148 km/h on Hwy 5 near Valemount. The driver, a 22 year old Edmonton male, was charged with Excessive Speed and was fined $368 and had his vehicle impounded for 7 days.

On November 25, 2013 Valemount RCMP stopped a vehicle for travelling 151 km/h on Hwy 5 near Valemount. The driver, a 27 year old Edmonton male, was charged with Excessive Speed and was fined $368 and had his vehicle impounded for 7 days.

On November 26, 2013 Valemount RCMP conducted a Counter Attack Road Check on Hwy 5 near Valemount. The Check Stop resulted in a small drug seizure including marihuana and steroids. No charges are being pursued at this time.

On November 26, 2013 Valemount RCMP received a report of threats being uttered at the High School. After a risk analysis it was decided to implement a Restorative Justice session in lieu of Criminal charges.

On November 27, 2013 McBride RCMP were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a residence west of McBride. The vehicle entered the property and knocked on the door claiming to be looking for the Bed and Breakfast, but then left driving right by the B & B. If anyone observes any strange vehicles on your property please call police immediately and obtain the vehicle description and license plate.

On November 27, 2013 McBride RCMP received a report of a B&E and theft from a residence on 2nd Ave. $300 cash was taken from the residence. The home owner was away at the time of the theft.

On November 27, 2013 Valemount RCMP observed a vehicle on Hwy 5 speeding up and slowing down and drifting side to side crossing the fog line and center line and then back again. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 19 year old Valemount male, was arrested for possession of marihuana. A small amount of marihuana was seized from the vehicle and based on the driver’s driving behavior he was prohibited from driving for 24 hours. No charges are pending with respect to the marihuana possession.

On November 28, 2013 McBride RCMP received a report of snowmobilers stranded on Lucille Mountain in the Butterfly area. McBride Search and Rescue was activated and attended. The stranded snowmobilers were located and successfully guided out by SAR. RCMP would like to thank all of the dedicated volunteers who make up our local SAR teams.

On November 29, 2013 Valemount RCMP attended a loud party complaint on 8th Avenue. The owners of the residence were spoken to about the noise and turned the stereo down. There were no further complaints and as such no charges are pending. Police would like to remind everyone as we head into the festive season to be respectful of your neighbors. Loud parties or noise from your residence that prevents your neighbors from peaceably enjoying their own residence may result in a bylaw fine and/or Criminal charges of Mischief.

On November 29, 2013 McBride RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 16. The driver, a 17 year old McBride male, suffered a sprained ankle in the collision.

On November 30, 2013 Valemount RCMP were called to assist BC Ambulance with a medical call. Upon attendance an elderly female was located on the floor in pain and subsequently transported to the clinic.

On November 30, 2013 McBride RCMP stopped a vehicle near McBride as the registered owner was believed to be prohibited. Police confirmed that the driver, a 35 year old Prince George male, was prohibited under the motor vehicle act. He was issued an Appearance Notice for Court and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

On December 1, 2013 McBride RCMP were called to a B&E on Garrett Rd. The owner was out of country and thieves forced entry through a door. Police are contacting the owner to obtain a complete list of what was stolen, but at this time it is believed a TV and several firearms are missing.

The days are still getting shorter and police would like to remind pedestrians and cyclists to be as visible as possible. Pedestrians should wear light colored clothing or a reflective vest if possible. Pedestrians should walk on the sidewalks or against the flow of traffic if on the roadway and carry a flashlight. Cyclists should wear light colored clothing or a reflective vest if possible. Cyclists are also required by law to: wear a helmet, have lights on their bike (white in front and red in the rear) that are visible from 100 meters, and follow all other rules of the road including riding on the right side of the street (with the flow of traffic) and stopping at stop signs. When you are cycling please ride your bike in a manner that is predictable so motorists in the area know what you are going to do.

Please don’t drink and drive this holiday season. Arrange for a designated driver, a safe ride home, or call a taxi.
