Valemount RCMP continue to investigate a motor vehicle collision that has claimed the life a 19-year-old female driver from Alberta and a separate collision that killed a tractor trailer driver.

On November 12th around 10:40 am Valemount RCMP were called to the scene of the first collision on Hwy 5 near Bone Creek, some 55 km south of Valemount BC.

Officers confirmed the lone female driver of a Pontiac was deceased. Police say evidence suggested the Pontiac was traveling south when it lost control on the icy roads and slid into an oncoming BC Hydro truck. The driver of the Hydro truck was uninjured.

North District Integrated Collision Reconstructionist Services (ICARS) were called to the scene and Highway 5 was closed in both directions until the evening, causing long delays for traffic.

BC Coroner Services, RCMP and Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure continue to investigate the incident and have spoken to a number of witnesses who were at the scene. Police are asking any witnesses to please contact the Valemount RCMP at (250) 566 –4466.

Police have not yet released the name of the commercial tractor trailer driver who died in a collision 22 km north of Blue River on Nov. 16th.

Police were called to the scene at 1:40 pm and found the tractor trailer at the bottom of a 50-foot embankment. The driver was found dead at the scene, and was the only occupant of the truck.

RCMP along with Work Safe BC, BC Coroner Service, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure continue to investigate.
