Valemountain Days will have a new energy next summer, after 20 people showed up to last week’s annual general meeting to get involved.

There was concern Valemountain Days – one of Valemount’s biggest weekend summer festivals – may not happen next year, after a lack of volunteers crippled the event to just one day in June 2013. Only five organizers saw through the festival last year. Both the president and secretary-treasurer announced they would be stepping down and warned that without new energy, the festival would not happen.

Valemountain Days has been an annual event for 33 years, and is also known as Valemount Sports Day. It has often spanned three days and usually includes a parade, a logger competition, baseball tournament, street dance, kids activities, local displays and more.

At the AGM last Thursday, it was clear the annual festival meant a lot to the community as the threat of it not happening drew 20 people and 12 directors were elected, most of them new.

The new board chair is Charlotte Abernathy, with Marie Birkbeck as Secretary and Melanie Smith as Treasurer.

The next Valemountain Days meeting is Thurs. Oct 10th at 7pm. You can still get involved without being a director.
