A group of Yellowhead Outdoor Recreation Association members and other hikers took on Swift Mountain last week.

While it doesn’t look as epic as Mt. McKirdy or Mt. Trudeau from down below, make no mistake it has just as fabulous views over Valemount, the Premier Range and down Kinbasket Lake.

Near the summit, windswept snow clug like frosting to rocky clefts, offering a cool respite to the hot temperatures hikers dealt with on the way up.

To access this trail, you can drive several km up the mountain. From there it takes roughly three hours to reach the summit if you are not taking many breaks.

See the Valemount Trail Map for more details on how to get there. Oh and bring the bug spray – better yet, a net. Even at the summit they were bad.
